Replacing Steering wheel controls on a 2002 SE

Replacing Steering wheel controls on a 2002 SE
I just picked up replacement steering wheel audio controls for my 02 SE. Does anyone know if I have to go through the hassle of removing the airbag to swap these, or can I just swap them from the front of the steering wheel? (pry out the old ones, swap the wire harness and reinsert the new ones..) What'* the right procedure for a 2002?
