Default Remote starter

I have had my remote starter now it works great but the range on the remote is longer that than the keyless entry. I have to unlock my doors to start the car or hte alarm will go off. Is there somethign i can do to change this. Its annoying. On a 94 bonneville stock alarm.

1) What brand of remote starter?

2) Do you have the VATS or PASSkey factory security system? (e.g. a resistor chip in your ignition key?)

3) It sounds like your remote starter is not disabling the factory security system during its startup procedure. If you have to unlock the car yourself, your action is grounding the security system (either by putting the key in the lock or by using the factory remote) which basically tells the car that you are the proper user. The remote starter needs a connection that allows it to do that as well.

The remote starter is supposed to have a lead connected to the Factory Alarm Shutdown (FASD) wire, to prevent this problem. The wire to connect to it can be found in either front door or the trunk lid; it grounds when you put your key in the lock to open up, and the remote starter needs to ground it as well.
