Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Default Remote Start

Okay, so I decided to sell my other project car and focus on the Bonneville...which means I want to tear it apart...lol...but I guess one of the things I would like to do is install a remote start on it...do you guys have any suggestions as to where I can get a unit? I found a fairly decent one on ebay but I want to look at all my options...

I got a Viper 5901, which is a remote start and a security system and I love it!. It retails at $499.99 at BestBuy, which usually covers basic installation, so at MOST another $150-$160 on top for modules. This unit actually has the LCD screen with some animation when locking and starting and such. Plus it has a rechargeable battery It also has a 1 mile range and multiple function buttons to allow you to remotely roll your windows down, defroster to turn on, check interior and exterior temp, see what time it is, how long it'* been running. Security wise, it has a proximity sensor, impact sensor and motion tilt sensors. And it still uses our stock security. If someone sets off the alarm, the remote screams too, and the screen will tell you which sensor is going off. I really, REALLY like mine. Just throwin that option out for ya!

Please, please, do not let Best Buy touch your car. Especially something that is THAT integrated into your car.
If you can't do it yourself, find a good, reputable independent car stereo/alarm install shop to do it for you. 2 of my good friends work or have worked at a "good" stereo shop, and a lot of their work was uninstalling crap that Best Buy would put in there and screw up.
You might get lucky and find a BB with an installer that knows their stuff. But honestly, if they were that good, they can make a lot more money at a car stereo place instead.

Well as an employee of the BBY here in Fargo, and knowing the installers for 4 years, and knowing they've all been working at this store for 15 years apiece, and knowing they get paid plenty, since I am there manager, I trust my guys to do a good job. Which they have. So don't judge all BBY'* because of one bad experience you've had. And besides, with 75% of the start and 80% off install as an employee, paying extra for someone else I don't know do to an "OK" job just seemed foolish. And BBY install bays guarantee their work for life. Seems like a good deal to me.

put a bunch in myself, anything from dei is good. i never have good luck with anyone touching my car so i dont let anyone anymore. just take the driver seat out before you start and dont use any of the squeeze on taps they come loose and start causing problems. solder your connections and heat shrink.
