I install DEI stuff for a living, and hardly ever have to use additional relays, unless I have to switch polarity, add a second starter (or third ignition line).

It also makes installers' work much easier. I was told that my doors would have to be taken apart and wires ran from each door for the door triggers. With the DEI 1700G, all that extra work was unnecessary as that stuff is built right into the interface module.

Yeah, I don't use the 1700G, the 457, or the 555 anymore. In fact, i don't even use the 1100f, 556u, or any of that crap.

I use these bypass modules: http://www.xpressdownload.com/jbstech/default.aspx

I have only 6 of them in my bay, and they cover any vehicle that I've needed to do yet. The XK01 will do the locks, trunk, door triggers, alarm disarm, and PK3 bypass.

I have the Valet 551R in my truck. Its a great sytem, excellent range etc. It acts up now and again, not responding, but normally works perfectly.

Can you confirm the XK01 does PK3? DEI'* website says it will do PK3, but when i contacted Audiovox Tech support, they said the XK01 will not do PK3, so i ended up exchanging my XK01 for a 1700G.

Yes, it sure will. I verified that with my tech guy today. The XK01 basically replaced the all of the GM bypass'*. I've used the XK06 on a few vehicle'*, but I am going to just start using the XK01. I will only use the XK06 on Cobalts, Ion'*, Pursuits, Canyon'*, Colorado'*, and H3'*. For some reason, everytime I've used an XK06, it has triggered the Passkey, so I would have to wait 10 minutes before I could try reprogramming again. And sadly, they are on stupid simple vehicle'* that I opted out of just using a relay and a resistor, basically because the customer'* really got on my nerves (02 Silverado and 03 Grand Am).

http://www.xpressdownload.com/wizard...=2000&x=31&y=7

The XK01'* are pre-programmed to do all of the Passkey systems, but then you can download the alarm and lock combo as well. 00+ G/H body'* are a breeze (just be sure to run a constant line, the factory 12V Constant is like 10amp).

I use the DEI Compustar W2SH LED. It works pretty well and has a LCD screen that shows if doors are open and battery life.

i've got Compustar in all my cars and never had a problem for the past 4 years. The range is awesome and its got ton'* of features.

Just bear in mind that now matter what alarm u put in, if some one really wants to steal something from your car, then that alarm is rendered useless (buddy o mine had his car pimped out with high end car alarm and still had his car ripped to shreds In less than the 5 minutes it took for him to run outside to his car) , unless u hire ninja'* to watch ur car all the time.

since some one kinda rewoke this thread i guess i will add this for you. as a MECP certifed technician at circuit city i will tell you now that DEI (directed electronics) has the largest hold on the remote start, keyless entry, and security feild. some of the names that directed owns are: viper, clifford, python, valet, hornet, and a few others directed is also the only company that Sirius satilitte radio works with look the next time you're out at best buy or circuit city. directed is a huge business and is a very reliable unit viper and python both carry lifetime warranties and come in many different variatians. you can get just keyless entry, keyless - remote start, keyless - security, and at last an all in one unit I.E. keyless, remote start - security. these units are 99% of the time not "out-of-the-box defective" and more often then not it is installer error (faulty programming or incorrect wire connection on the installer'* part). personally i have the python 990 which is the 1 mile range, two-way responder with security and remote-start. the pilot website to python, viper, clifford, etc. is www.directed.com from there you can access all other companies.
