radar detector wiring
Good Morning,
I have on '01 with the overhead console that includes an ignition switched power outlet. I can plug the detector in to that, but what I really want to do is to hard wire it and cable it underneat the headliner. So...
Without dropping >>$100 for a shop manual (yet ), does anyone know how to pull the trim/frame for all the overhead console (map lights, homelink, power outlet, etc) down - safely, without breaking any tabs or locks - in order to access the harnesses? Better yet, anyone out there done this and have any tips, tricks, or pitfalls to pass along?
FYI, it is a Passport 8500. I have a dash mount for it in my truck and use the lighter outlet, and I have a fused, ignition-switched hard wired harness routed through the windshield pillar for it on my SS.

What I have done in the past is to get a outlet extension from Radio Shack. Cut it to get the pigtails. Hook power to the side with a stripe or upraised areas on it. Then ground the other side. Zip tie your plug into it and hide the rest. This way it'* fused properly, hooked to your ignition circuit and hidden.
