I saw in your sig. you setup, I dont know much about the speakers that you have but If you have a speaker that has a higher RMS and you are under powering them (HU power) then they will be quieter then cheeper speakers.

IF they had a lower impedence (less ohms) then they should be louder because there is less resistance in the line to the audio signal. I agree with getting an amp though, you really need at least a cheapie to get good output out of ur new speakers
Good aftermarket speakers sometimes have lower sensitivity ratings. Im just guessing that the stock speakers are around 90 db. I put rockford components as my fronts and they have an 87 db sensitivity. Theyre almost half the loudness as the original, check the specs. With low sensitivity you need more power to get the same SPL ( loudness)
the only thing you can do is give them more power. I HAD to go with an amp to run my rockfords just so they arent drowned out. More power = better control of speaker which = better sound!
good luck!

Dang -now I have the same problem in my SSE. I put Infinity 6x9'* in the rear and Alpine 5.25" 2-ways in the front doors and they have alot of highs but no mids. And to add to that fact I still am running through the BOSE 2 ohm amp and using a 7-band EQ factory deck, so there is nothing but what sounds like 10" subs in the rear and some really sharp highs up front -definitely not gonna be bringing home trophies with this sound.
So I guess I'm gonna have to straight wire the front speakers (from radio directly to the speakers instead of through the BOSE amp) or get the 75x4 Soundstream amp that I just found for $70 at a local pawn shop.
Can't wait to get this fixed as well as a new MP3/WMA deck (still looking to see what I can get for around $250).
