Default Passlock bypass

I am going to get a remote starter for my girlfriends '99 grand prix GT. I would like to know if I need the PASSLOCK BYPASS DOes anyone know where I can find this information out at?

If I am not mistaken any GM 99 and newer does. You can go to crutchfield and check it out for your car. They should tell you everything you need to do an install and if you need it or not.

I'm showing that 99+ has a transponder type of anti-theft system. To verify, "PK3" should appear on the key just below the rubber head. You will need a bypass module like this:

with the remote starter on our 00 blazer we just used a resistor to bypass the passkey. the module is a waste of money

'00 Blazers do not have the same antitheft system as the 99 Grand Prix so you cant just use a resistor. Also, the modules allow the theft system to remain fully functional where as you have disabled the entire system with a resistor. For some people, the module is not a waste of money, it'* a requirement.

ah i got ya.......i forgot that the systema are different through out GM. and yes the module is the only the passkey will function sometimes

Thanks guys. I looked it up and I believe I need the 555L. Can anyone verify that?

Check the key for the "PK3" designation. If it has it then it is the one pictured above. If not then it is the 555L. I'm getting incomplete or conflicting information from two sources:
