you need to give your factory amp a new 12v switched signal. It is not coming on.

Let assume someone had an after market radio in the car before i bought it.

1. If everything was after market but all speakers are plugged in where is the most likely location they would be cut to tap into them all at one location.

2. called pontiac gave them my vin number the car never had any factory power amp

3. So simple of a setup but with a large problem
a. Had factory head unit
b. no onstar
c. no power amp
d. no steering controls
I am disconnected some where from the ribbon cable to the speaker wiring my guess is at a central location.

Any thoughts

I am assuming that the speaker wires all feed down the driver side of the car. does any one know where the ribbon connects to the speaker wire?

Try looking for an amp in the trunk on the back seat frame. You don't have a Bose, but you might have the Monsoon system. The only designation is on the factory head unit when you turn it on. It says "Monsoon" on the display. There will be a black box on the drivers side of the back seat frame in the trunk that says Monsoon.

Oops. i guess i should read all the threads before i post. LOL. The only thing i could think of is take a 9 volt battery and touch it to the speaker leads at the wiring harness and listen for a pop. if no pop, look for a splice where someone could have added a line level converter. I install high end home audio/video for a living and have a "tone generator" they are 60 bucks of so at Home Depot. you could use it to trace the wire and find the break. I think they have a less expensive one too, called a "cable tracer"

There is a box on the frame of the back seat that says ALPS Rear intagratiom control. Pontiac said it is not a power amp. but could not tell me what it does. If no one knows what it is I can take a picture and post it
