Hi guys. I just bought my ivory 2001 SLE last week and I am looking to upgrade the audio in it. I would like to keep the total price under $1500. Any suggestions on what receiver, amp, and subs to buy? I definately want mp3/dvd capability and would very much like the receiver to match the dash lights. I've been reading these great forums and I'm under the impression that JL Audio is the best for Amps/Subs. What do you recommend for like 6x9 rear speakers and the 6 3/4 ones that go in the front? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

JL is a very good brand but they can be expensive. If your on a budget than u will deffinately want to get everything below retail. here are some sites to start with. If u want dvd for that price then check out www.partsexpress.com. You will want to buy a compact dvd player not the in dash units.

You can use a normal din sized HU, or a 1.5 Din Headunit. Matching Dash lights isn't as easy, i got a rockford that'* got red lights with MP3, but no DVD. I don't see the point.

JL are nice, but nothing is the best. Find what plays the music you like best.

When I hear subs and see 6x9' I wonder, but nonetheless, www.partexpress.com has a crazy sub for less than $200 (its a Kove Armageddon Z). With some research... Oh hell E-mail me this is going to get too long. Feel free to post my recommendations before purchase.

Thanks for the links guys. I mainly listen to Metal/Rock so I dont think I need a lot of bass but then again, I want a decent amount. Would 2 10" do the trick? I currently have a 400 watt Pioneer amp laying around I could use. Would that be enough to cover the 2 subs and the front/rear speakers? Sorry if I sound incredibly newbie-like but I'm a computer guy not a car audio guy. Ha.

400 RMS is a nice # to throw at them together. Sealed box is a must

I'm still not sure what receiver to buy. I was gonna go with a dvd so that I could put 4.7GB of mp3'* onto one DVD+R but I can get an mp3 HU for a lot less.

I can fit around 130 mp3'* on a normal CD. That entertains me for about a month or so. I've done 11 albums on an album only one as well.

DVD will be pricey.

Now with what you already have. That amp will be great for your speakers in the car. Buy some nice 5 1/4" component speakers for the fronts, and you'll be set there. For the subs, Something like I suggested, 2 10w0 JL'* in a sealed box, (what I'm running) with about 400-500w RMS behind them. I had some STP going today, and popped the trunk to throw my absorber in after drying. I was surprised at how much was being output, I may have to reconsider my box positioning.... Seems a lot is not being heard... My gains are low, and bass EQ are FLAT.

Okay, just to make sure I'm getting this, my 400w amp will be powering my front/rear speakers and I would have to buy another amp to power the JL woofers. Right? If thats the case, couldnt I just buy a 1000w amp and power everything? I have a guy that wants my 400w.
