you can do it without pulling the seat, but its a real pain in the *** and theres a good likelyhood that you will crease the particle board that the shelf cover is made out of and may damage it permanantly

Sounds like it might be best for me to pull the seats for my first time. This way I learn what'* all back there and don't hurt anything. Then do what you did (pull the grills) for any more sets that I might put in.
