Front and Rear Speakers - GM Forum - Buick, Cadillac, Chev, Olds, GMC & Pontiac chat

Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Default Front and Rear Speakers

I'm lookin for some good speakers to put in my car, and the infinitiy 5 1/4s and 6 x 9s really catch my eye, not to mention 10 percent off bestbuy coupons.....so heres the speakers i've been lookin at

Infinity 5012i

Infinity 9612i
http://www.crutchfield.com/*-76r8Pwf...300&I=1089612I

they are rated from 2-45 watts for the 5 1/4s, and 2-100 for the 6x9s...would these make some great sound and bass if i was to add them to my stock headunit? or is my stock headunit not even enough to power these speakers...

i don't want to amplify my speakers at the moment, and i would not like to get a new headunit, since im going to college in the fall and don't want it to get stolen with my untinted windows...

and can i plan for a compass relocation after installing these 6x9s?

Nice choice on speakers, however some or most GM stock HU'* have a protection cuircuit that lower the bass the higher the volume gets. I dont know if this holds true for the Bonnes since I never heard a stock Bonne stereo but its usually so with GM hu'*.

Your stock HU should have no problems powering them and your sound quality will improve, but im sure you know the best way to get better sound quality and better bass response is to add amplifiers to your set up.

The good thing is, you can always upgrade to amps when your ready.

As far as the compass, I believe you might have to relocate it if it starts giving you false readings.
