FIgured I would go ahead and post this up here, since this is in my Bonne. Anyways, I wanted a box that didn't take up my entire trunk this time, and I wanted to focus a bit more on SQ than SPL. So, I decided to make a box that would occupy the space right behind the drivers taillamp. If you want build pictures, you can ask. Otherwise, you get the finished product. Yes, there are scratches on my W6. I use my trunk, it'll happen. I don't have a full trunk shot just yet, but I can get one in the morning when it'* light out. Next up is my amp rack, no fiberglass this time, just MDF.




If there'* any interest in me making one for you, PM me and we will discuss it all. But, I will say this, it'll be cheaper for you to buy a single 12" box at best buy than for me to fiberglass one. Materials aren't cheap, and theres a good amount of labor involved. Plus side though, without the sub, the enclosure wieghs less than 10 lbs, and it out of the way.

Looks good but you should look into a grill or some thing to protect the sub.

Yeah, I'm gonna look at a few grills. I really gotta find something that will clear the sub at full excursion though, so... yeah.

For making the mold, I really didn't feel like standing out in the cold and trying to fiberglass. And.... we were too busy at work for me to pull my car into the bay, so I had another method to make the mold, then fiberglass outside of the car. The pictures will do the speaking.

Yes, you will see some airbubles. I was out of the good stuff at the time, so I had to use what I could get until I had more good resin in. There are random pictures missing, because I didn't have my camera for about 2 weeks. I added a flush mount ring to the system (high strenght glued down then kitty haired to the enclosure).





I then fiberglassed 1 layer on the outside of the mold, and ripped the foam and all the foil off I could.





I am no pro, this is only my 4th fiberglass project. I hope to be doing several more within the next few months. My skills have increased exponentially.

I left the ring mount dowls in for extra strength. No flex in this enclosure. You can see wood dowls in the actual enclosure as well. Helps for strength in the long flat parts. Substuting rope would probably be even smarter.

where did you get all your stuff?

Aluminum foil- Krogers probably.
Blue Tape, paint brushes, small paint trays, expanding foam, and gloves- Home Depot
Fiberglass Resin, hardener, and matting- Local auto paint supply store. After I finally got the good stuff, I used the Evercoat brand. Bondo is junk, don't waste your money. Hence the reason I had a few air bubbles on the inside.
Carpet- Parts Express.

Total $$ into the project- Roughly $80.

Total amount of labor into the project- 15 hours tops. A lot was stop and go if I was busy with something else, phone calls, etc... If I had whole day to myself with nice weather and all the supplies needed, I could have had it done.

I definately recommend getting into it. You can set up your soundstage soooo much better than stock. Plus, IMO, it'* fun, you get people always questioning what your doing and "Ooooing and Awwing" at your project, and once your done, your pretty damn proud of what you have nobody else will have.

Similar to my box setup, but I used MDF in that corner. I'm really happy with the performance of the sub back there, the only problem is the access to the tail lights. I want to eventually try a glass box back there, and you're not helping .

My box just lifts right out. Currently, I have nothing hold it in place, it'* been there over a week, and it hasn't moved. And, with the sub, weighs less than 30 lbs. More than easy enough to just move it if I need to change a bulb.
