That'* pretty neat. The carpet kinda matches the trunk carpet, too.

I agree with BonneMeMN. I am itching to get into 'glassing myself and you are most assuredly not helping. That looks like some really nice work. Do you work at a garage or shop or something? You made a comment you couldn't get into the bay?

Any how two very enthusiastic thumbs up.

I'm an installer as a part time job until I get out of school (1 more year!) for Mechanical Engineering. I've been messing around with car audio since I've had my license, and just started to get a bit more serious with it in the past 2 years. I don't buy sets of stuff(for example, components), I hand pick each pieces (woofers, tweeters, crossovers). I know there are some DIY'ers on here, so they know where I'm coming from.

Anyways, thanks for the comments! I should have pictures of my amp rack sometime this week.

OK, so I didn't have my camera with me for build pictures, so I had to resort to the cell phone. Anyways, you can get an idea what I'm doing for my amp rack. You can see, there are gaps in the tunnel, those will be fixed up with fiberglass. The tunnel fitment isn't 100% yet, so there is still some modification that needs to be done (gotta bring the top of the tunnel up about 20 degrees and gotta shave a bit more off the bottom of the tunnel so it will fit right up perfect, then glass, smooth, and carpet it all).

I mounted the boards on there to check fitment of my amps.

Enjoy!

looks good. What are you going to do to keep stuff from sliding into the amps?

Still not sure about that. Most of the stuff I put in my trunk is bags for clothing when I take trips, so they are soft anyways. I hardly ever put anything harder into my trunk, so I'm not too awful concerned.

I got the fabric from www.partsexpress.com.

Nothing wrong with your current layout, but did you consider mounting the amps in a \ / or / \ shape? Just an asthetic thing to make one side mirror the other.

For someone who hasn't done custom fiberglass boxes for years, your work would stand up against any pro out there...and beat a few I've seen too! Excellent job on the enclosure.

PS. Did Kahlua try out the enclosure for size after the glassing was all complete. Looks like a perfect place for kitty to hide. I know I'd find mine inside doing a "quality inspection".

The amps were a bit too long to fit like that. The smaller amp on the right side would either hit the floor or it'* corner would be hanging over the tunnel. I really really wanted it like that, but it wasn't gonna happen.

Thanks for the comments on the professionalism!! I really try to keep it clean, and do about as a best job that I can. I spent about 4.5-5 hours on that amp rack so far alone: measuring, cutting, test fitting, repeat process x100 to get an awesome fitment with minimal gaps (the reason I LOVE carpet!, but I will get to painting some day, I just don't have a water filter for the air compressor).

She'* hid out in my wood boxes before, but not this one. I actually didn't cut out the fabric until it was back at work with me for some inside strengthening. After that was done, it came home and was promptly carpeted.
