Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

It's all getting ripped out!!!

Default It'* all getting ripped out!!!

I'm going to do it. The monsoon system in my Bonnie GXP is getting replaced. I'm putting in some Polk Audio Mobile Monitors in the front doors, Mobile Monitors in place of the 6X9"*, and 2 12" Mobile Monitor subs with a new Alpine dvd nav head unit and 1 Alpine 1000 watt amp for the subs and 1 Alpine 90x4 for everything else. Im using Planet Waves interconnect for custom length. The question i have is, with everything going, do i NEED a wiring harness for the new head unit. I dont use on-star and dont care about door chimes or even if the radio stays on with the key off. Can i just unplug the factory unit and leave it at that, tap into a constant power and a switched power and have it all be hunky dory?

Well yea if you're replacing the whole system you could. The harness just integrates everything nicely (especially when using factory speakers, but you're not)

Thats kinda what i was thinking. Even with a harness id have to run into some line level converters to hook up to the factory amp. Just wanted some opinions from others that have done the same thing

i did the whole system replace on my old 03 monte and my 07 monte, they have cheap(like 10 bucks on ebay) adapters that are for "non-onstar" i used one of those because its worth the 10 bucks not to have to cut the old wires for dimmer+ground+constant power. the rap power i got from a fuse labeled rap in the fuse box, i had to run a wire to the radio but it stays on like the oem one now.

sounds like it should be a nice system
