Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Im asking you for advice! LOL

Pionner is hit and miss when it comes to car audio. Their subs that are worth a darn are pretty expensive and only their newer expensive amps are reliable and powerful. Alpine makes nice subs and amps tho, especially for SQ

John, was the Amp mounted on the extra aluminum braces you installed?

Yes, I drilled holes in the flat aluminum bar stock to match the ones on the amp (across) and spaced the bar stock to match the dimension of front to back holes. They have it at Lowes.

That'* a great idea, I have my sub mounted at the back of my sub box and I hate it! I wish I can have it somewhere else.
Any other spots you'd recomment?

Mounting an amp to the back of the sub is such an incredibly bad idea. I can't tell you how many amps I've seen break because of that.

John, can you post some pictures?

Honestly, I screwed mine right into the plastic in the back and they've held up for a long time. I can take a picture if you want. I really should get some proper bracing set up for them though. I'll be doing that once I start upgrading the power wiring in the Bonneville.

Amps don't do well to that kind of vibration. I had a dead Directed 1500D that had loosened solder and switches due to being mounted to the back of a hard pounding 15" sub. The vibrations do start to cause damage and fatigue. Its just generally a bad idea unless you aren't pushing very much power at all.

I already posted the only one I have of it on my GXP trunk lid. Not about to unbolt it and pry out all those plastic rivets (some I had to replace) to show the aluminum bars. Simple design really and bolts tightened with locking washers and nuts. I ran the power wires in the stock tubing already on the one side, and added one to the other side for the speaker wires.

O btw... Im going to try running my PA A3000db tomarrow with my 15 FI Q.. at 4 ohms so my sub will be getting about 1100w rms. Well itll prolly be lower than that since i havent done any charging systems updates yet... im going to test it out and see how bad my voltage drops so i know how much attention i have to pay to the charging system. X, MONTE, Venom or other experienced audiophiles.... have u ever used a cap? they get a bad rap. And i try to steer people away from em also. but if i get a 10 farad cap for dirt cheap is it worth it? i know a 2nd battery is by far a better bet (along with HO alt, big three, ect) but just curious since its such an easy add on
