doesnt the blazer have its own bcm? i would think having 2 on the data bus would cause some kind of interference. unless you wire up a separate obd plug for the dealer to program, but its alot of work just to use a oem radio thats not that great in the first place.

Yes, the Blazer has a BCM. And yes, you can daisy chain multiple devices on the Class2 databus.

yeah, thanks Mike.. Justin, the Blazer does have a bcm, but it is not a Class II data bus, so the radio wouldnt get the nod to actually turn on.

Mike.. heres a question I've been mulling over the last couple days.. as I can pick just abt any UC6-type radio/cd/xm HU (it'll fit), most optimum thing would be to get a bcm and radio from the same car (so VIN'* match). I'd just have to pick the same make/model bcm to franken-wire to parallel with the Blazer'* bcm? That sound right?

Don't know if I'd mesh the harnesses together (if its even possible) or just run power to the new bcm and get the data lines back to the radio to turn on.. the busses wouldn't be tied together, the oem bcm and its bus would run as normal, just the newer bcm would run soley to the radio. Having two diff. data streams in the same harness would not be a good thing.

Simon, the TA guy that has the Added Newer HU to UART thread gave me the idea.. I read thru the thread here and on the Firebird Forum that has all the pix .. was just looking for add't'l input/ideas from the smarter-than-me people. =)

I figured out that the Cobalts HU wont fit in the Blazer, but that any newer model UC6 radio/cd changer will.. jus have to work the data-end of it..

heres my idea has just about every feature you could want in a radio, free shipping and adapters. i got one for my yukon about 50 times better than any oem radio ive ever heard. if you have to buy a oem radio and a bcm and if they arent from the same car you have to have it programed by the dealer. it doesnt make any sense to go that way.

But it looks like its someone else'* radio.. keeping the OEM look means bonus-bux for resale, and, as it -isnt- aftermarket, means that no one can jump in it, and pull the radio out to steal. I am not a "lets trik mah ride with flashy stuff" guy. As for requiring $$ for a dealer to re-burn the radio vin into another bcm (been there, done that), if both come from the same truck, there is no programming req'd as the radio -still- sees the original bcm vin. So thanks, but aftermarket replacment radio, or even external sat reciever modulated into the radio is not my cup of tea.
