Head units and steering wheel controls - Page 2 - GM Forum - Buick, Cadillac, Chev, Olds, GMC & Pontiac chat

Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

yes I have to agree that the PAC is a good unit. Its not going to be as good as the factory steering wheel controls, as the PAC uses the I/R signal

the only part I don't like is that it'* a little slower than the factory controls, and everytime you hit a button my pioneer headunit makes a beeping noise. Can't shut it off either. :(

Mind you, mine was almost 4 years ago. Newer units may be improved, but it was a bad enough experience that I'll never consider it again. I'd rather go without steering wheel controls than fight that POS again!

But I opted to go back to stock. I have an RF modulated CD changer in the trunk with the stock HU now.

TaylorD has one, and it works great for him, clean install too.

I had an RF modulated changer in the trunk of my old GP, and it sounded clean. I was just wondering if there was anything out there that easily tapped into the controls. I know TaylorD probably spent more on his sound system than I would be able to get away with. My wife, for some strange reason, doesn't think upgrades to my car are financially sound decisions. (no pun intended).

the PAC is an easy install, there are maybe like 5 wires that need to be tapped in.
