Default Gain System in '90 SSE

i have a 1990 SSE and i swapped in a CD HU out of a 97 bonneville. now that i have hooked it up, when ever i turn on my gain system, all i can hear from the back speakers is a clicking/thumping noise no matter where the lever is. could somebody please help me, i miss my deep bass!

Wish I could help - I don't have a wiring diagram of a 1990. How do you turn yours on? Mine doesn't turn on and off - there is only a lever.

I would put my money on a wiring discrepancy.
