Computer in the Car
I am 90% of the way to having a computer (two eventually) in my trunk. They are HP E-vectras and the run off of 19v DC. The only 10% i need is getting the power from the car up to about 19v (im thinking 15-20 will work). Anyone have any CHEAP ideas (i can get a 12-19 v laptop supply for $75 USD..too spesive if i can avoid it)? I need about 3 amps per computer while runing. (I am starting by using only one computer) They automatically put themselves to sleep when the retained accessory shuts off and the power will be switched form the car battery to a gel-cell battery or 2 (they are from a commercial fire-alarm system)
how about writing a program to increase horse power and porting your computer to the engines computer, i mean if a 94 bonnie is running 225 on a 486 (at the most) system imagine what you can code and make it do with two gig or four gig for that matter

Ahemm, yes lets all write programs to "boost" our HP to infinity.
But no, I really wanted to get a computer to moniter my pcm. As well as play dvd'* mp3'*, surf the internet(yes it can be done). Play some games, and generally impress people.

Seriously, there is a product called by Autoenginuity that will connect your car'* computer to a laptop, or pocket PC. This will allow you to monitor a plethora of paramaters. It has a guage like display, numerical read outs, etc. It will even export numbers/data to a spread sheet that you can plug in other information to get a rough Dyno calculation. Go to http://www.autoenginuity.com for more info, I think the owner has a few of his products on ebay too.

i was actually thinking about getting a barebones system (shuttle maybe) and sticking it in my trunk.. my only dilema is what to do for a monitor.
