Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Default Class II data bus

on another forum someone claimed that you cannot replace the factory headunit on the 2001+ Bonneville/Aurora/LeSabre because the radio controls other functions such as Onstar, Air bags, Driver information center, climate control, etc. ok, I know that if the factory radio is removed the steering wheel controls won't work which includes both radio controls, and climate controls on the steering wheel (for models equipped with it.) The onstar won't work because it interfaces with the speakers, and the door chimes won't work. but I have never heard that the airbags will cease to function by removing the factory radio. So, are there any 2001+ owners that could confirm this? I know TaylorD could but he'* really not on the forums too much. He says that the 2000 model uses a 32 pin connector and the 2001+ use a ribbon cable. I thought that all 2000+ models use the ribbon cable though.

An installer had told me the same thing about losing important stuff like you were talking about if you were to remove the radio, he recommended this http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/AX...CE_p_4485.html but has never done the install with it and couldn't guarantee it would work for me????

If you have OnStar, get the GMOS-05

If you don't have OnStar, get the GMRC-04

That'* basically all you need to replace your radio.
If you want your steering wheel controls to work, that'* a different issue.
