Class D amps are more efficient for powering subs. In my experience they are easier on your electrical system too.

Mono amps are almost exclusively used for subwoofers. They output a single channel of audio so you lose your stereo sound. This is actually benificial when using a single sub. Mono amps can also be wired to run multiple subs if the amp is capable.
