Default Check CD Error

Just recently I put a CD in my AM/FM/CD Player and an error came up stating Check CD. I purchased a cleaner but it doesen't seem to want to start. The error shows up and ejects the CD. Any Suggestions? I have a 2001 Bonneville.

which year is your car...cd players we used for 15 years in bonnevilles with at least 5 different variations.
