cd's to show off sound quality
There are actual tracks available, that push your system to (or beyond) its limits. It basically tries to reproduce extremely low bass & extremely high treble, gradually increasing the intensity... It becomes pretty evident when/if your speakers seize up during the track.
if youwant something that will show off you system in one song, even if you dont like rap, get some mr lucci mr pookie cds or songs, they have good bass along with highs to show of your tweets, all around they use all your speakers
actually if you get the chance, pick up a sheffield drive cd or the iasca soundq cd. thats what the judges of competions use in SLAP and IASCA respectivly. most bass on the cds is natural through drums and organs and not synthesized(sp?)/sampled like on most rap and bass cds. they have live and studio recordings which show off the staging of your system and also tracks with just voice to show your left, right and center imaging of your stereo. i just acquired these cds and then my car that was setup for SQ got wrecked. before that i used dave matthews and tatu to tune my system before a show. working on getting my stereo into the regal so i can start getting my first places again.
Sheffield and Telarc are good.

I use sheffield drive in prep for SLAP shows
When someone test listens my car and theres time, I usually play something all with instruments first, Aka a band, usally Subime, Santana, Bob Marley. Than something that will pound, anything with a electronic bass beat so I turn up the bass boost ****. Than sometimes show how good the radio sounds.

The Lion King soundtrack from Disney. My kids use to listen to it, and I found that it'* very dynamic and recorded very well.
Opensource, you listen to foriegn music so that you are not partial to your kind of music and actually listen to the system. If your system can handle classical, jazz, or the like then it will be able to handle anything you can throw at it. Classical is real good because it goes from soft passages to loud in a heartbeat, really shows off headroom
