Well, in my case I am definately not particularly set up for SPL, I am setup for music. I hit nicely in the car and I hit ver well below 30'*. I also am not pushing my 12'* either, with only an average of 350 watts to each, when they are rated for 1000 watts.

At this point I am more concerned with the quality of the sound than anything, but getting the most out of what I have is always best.

I merely entered to see where I stood as far as db/spl goes. I am happy with the results, but unfortunately, now I want more!!!

But I want more with as little $$ as possible. But I am sure it will be an ever on-going process.

Sealed boxes pound pretty good but not like a ported box. The only catch is that you have to feed your subs more power to do it. which really isn't a big deal to me. I have my 15'* in a sealed box and they pound. I also am having a ported box built strictly for when I compete. Ported is generally louder but sealed is generally better for sound quality. Depending on how you build the boxes though is what determines if this will be the case for you. If you want my opinion... I would say if you don't care about having rear fill, take out your back speakers and leave in the grills. It will allow the air from the subs to pass into the cab more. If not, build a ported box or get a bigger amp

ported or banded boxes do better in spl comps.

I also agree w/ brian, if you can, if your doing a comp. the less interference from objects between your speakers and mic/meter, for a comp., the better. Remove your back seat and/or remove the rear deck speakers, let the love flow freely from your trunk to the front.

now i think that as far as competing though, by removing your back seat, you will be put into the outlaw class but im not sure.

When I put mine in I removed the cardboard backing behind the armrest in the back seat, and seemed to help alot, and noticed that I had to have my box sitting about mid trunk to get the best sound, to far back blocks the sound from leaving the trunk.

I think I will look into that, location of my box in trunk, right now I have it set next to rear seat. Maybe I'll move it to center of trunk as well. Also, I'll look into what is on the rear seat panel on trunk side. If there is cardboard, I might remove it as well.

I didn't take it all out I just cut out around where the arm rest is, no point in taking it all out it won't open the hole any bigger

I gotcha, in the '04 the rear armrest already has a slot in it, I guess they designed it in for somewhat of an access from backseat to trunk, for some reason. But there is a black plastic trim peice that latches up or down , I have it down all the time, open, for the bass.

so people can put skii'*, longer pieces of wood, pvc etc through the hole. I use mine all the time for my skis
