CC'* right on this....since sound signals are AC, the speaker will work no matter what, and the stereo will not see a difference, though it WILL notice mismatch in resistance. Since it was said earlier that this problem existed even with the stock speakers, wiring mismatch (and resistance for that matter) can be eliminated as the problem. Thats why I am leaning to the idea of running all new power and grounds to the HU. Running a new ground is cake. Running new power was cake for me too, but only because my amplifier feed cable was closeby and I just tapped into that. My sound quality improved quite a bit after that little mod, and it cost nothing but time.

ok well the wiring is all in the right place i checked and double checked that, and im pretty sure the HU is shutting down due to overheating, could this be due to the fact that the factory ground isnt too good or could it be that im not getting enough power to the HU?

could be both. You could test the overheating by once again taking the radio out and placing a fan on it.(anything that will produce airflow basicly) play it again. see if it shuts down. If that solves the problem then we can work on a more permenent solution.

That is what I would do.

I know that feeling. Except for my 3 breaks totaling 5 weeks, I have been w/o my car since august. I'm in the middle of week 6 of this term. I get to go home during the middle of week 11 for the summer. so 5 more

i would also say to check all your wires running to your head unit and as sated above i would put in new wires

one thing you might want to do is make sure all the positives arent touching the negatives
and that all the open areas are taped with electrical tape

well then yes i would imagine that it is overheating and as an emergency feature it shuts itself down so that it doesnt blow anything inside
then when you turn it back on it works
its called auto protect
i had a stereo like that once
annoying aint it
but it saves you in the long run
