you'll blow them if you put a 1000w amp on each speaker. Their recommended power is 400w RMS max for each. Ttechnically a 1000w amp on two is already overpowering them.

ALWAYS go by the RMS figure....it is best to underpower a speaker than to over power it

IMO a little overpowering is better then underpowering. If you run a 400W RMS amp on a 350W or so RMS sub, you're better off then say a 200-300W RMS amp. If you run a lower amp, then when you really turn up the volume you'll send your amp Clipping, which is what kills most drivers, not over powering them. Don't go too overboard, but an extra 10-25% is a good overhead.

Most drivers will take some extra watts, but clipping is bad news for ANY speaker.

Note... i'm not suggesting a 1200.1 JBL on a Dual from BB...

Ratings will be undercut on both sides, sub and amp, at comparable quality levels. Most speaker underratings aren't by much either. 90% of the time people aren't using their RMS level even.

Orions are severely under rated because of competition in the 90'*. They would just call it a 200 watt amp so it could be in lower classes. 1 watt = 1 watt no matter what amplifier it comes out of....
