Aftermarket Stereo in 2001 Bonneville Question - GM Forum - Buick, Cadillac, Chev, Olds, GMC & Pontiac chat

Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Default Aftermarket Stereo in 2001 Bonneville Question

I'm planning on installing an aftermarket stereo for a friend. He has a 2001 Bonneville Not supercharged, No Bose system. He doesn't care if he loses the door chimes etc.

I was reading and it sounds to me like there is not going to be an Acc wire from the stock radio that I can use on the New one. Is that correct?

Could I just tap into the Acc wire from the cigarete lighter? Does that turn off when the car is turned off?

I never thought of that, but i guess you could do that, i assume you are going to buy the harness adapter w/o the module on it?

the cig lighter has acc power for a few minutes (not sure exactly how many) after you turn the car off

Yeah I am getting the harness without the module. Would there be a better spot to take Acc power from?

im not sure, one of the other guys might know, i have the harness with the module but it runs power through the ACC wire all the time so right now im trying to look for a fix for that w/o spending $60 on a new one

I used the accessory receptacle on the back of the console. But it only goes to the "engage" terminal of a starter solenoid I added that I tap every extra thing off (because of all the power requirements of my mods) Si it doesnt draw much amperage. Dont know if your Year model has that receptacle. Consider that All Bonnevilles in recent years have their harness'* engineered to a fine line..... Too fine and some electrical OEM systems in the car are already taxed and cause warranty problems. I would recommend that any extra wiring for upgrades/mods be stand alone and Not a tap off something else other than as I did.
