It is possible to swap decks around, but I believe you may run into the VIN issue. On newer cars, the radio will communicate with the PCM and verify that the VIN programmed in the radio, matches the VIN in the PCM. Dealers can reprogram this, but it will cost you. No match, no worky.

Do they even make tape decks anymore?

Without actually looking at the radio, I cannot say if you could connect an MP3 player to it. How is the sat radio connected?

Oh, that part I'm not sure of. Guess we will have to wait until someone else more familiar with your system chimes in.

judging by the fact that you use the radio to reset all of that, id hazard a guess that it does indeed have the vin verification. as for tape decks, they were an option untill they brought in the new body style. (it was a very rare option though so you might have a hard time finding one) if i were in your situation, id go pick a junkyard unit and see if you can swap the cd decks. it would probably save alot of time and money.

i had a 03 monte which is all the same, i put a aftermarket head unit in with the kit that retains chimes and that. the oil life you can reset by turning the key to run and pushing the gas petal all the way down three times fast. the rest of the options arent frequent things that you need to change, i just kept the oem headunit and stuck it back in if i wanted to change something. and if you wanted to sell that or buy one from the jy it would have to be programed by the dealer which makes it alot more cost effective and a million times better sound quality to just get a aftermarket unit like i did. i dont care about the chimes when i bought my 07 i didnt even get that just the 10 dollar wiring harness from ebay and am much happier without all the noise all the time.
