harofreak00 01-28-2006 03:01 AM

still sleeping............. just got the call from john... all done except for 2 things...

there are 2 clips that hold the tranny lines on or something...used trans didnt come with em... so we need to get them hopefully tomrrow morning... if the parts stores dont have em, we are looking at monday????

if anyone knows the piece im talking about, can u work on a part number?

im going back to bed

harofreak00 01-28-2006 11:13 AM

another call from john... he was on his way to get the 2 clips.. the reason he didnt use the old ones was becuase the previous one was wired in instead.... :nono: adam or zzp

he will then put the clips on.. make sure everything is good to go.. run it thru the gears, top it off..and call me to come pick it up...

we have not dug into the old trans yet to see what was up, but here is what was in the filter....

Well it looks like you will be able to enjoy the car once again. I am sure once you get it back and running, you will feel so much better.

harofreak00 01-28-2006 01:10 PM

john just called...

"do you want the good news or the bad news first?"

"just give it to me"

"well the bad news is....

there is no bad news, come pick up your car!!"

"HAHA YOU FUCKER!!!"

he said it shifts through all the gears and no leaks...

here we go...

man, I really feel sorry for the crap you've been going through with the Bonneville. I hope that it's problem free for a loooong time to come! Just make sure you're easy on her. ;)

HA!! and u thought it was over... so did i....

the drive home is 101.9 miles... 25 miles from home, with cruise control on, my RPM's started jumping all over... i thought shit... pulled over instantly.. saw the red juice SHOOTING out... and killed the engine...

it appears that those 2 clips that john bought this morning were the wrongs ones also, just as adam/zzp had done before, and it only held till then... i will post pictures of this tomorrow...

i tried to fix it by putting the clip back in the groove to see if it would hold.. with my tugging on it, it appeared to be strong enough to get us home... i bought 6 more qts of trans fluid and topped her off... backed up out of the driveway i had pulled into, and pulled forward when i noticed a huge red puddle again....

IT DIDNT HOLD!!! at this point i was so frustrated i said FUCK it, and left it on the side of the road... we continued back to mankato, knowing all the parts stores were closed, and my car would prolly need to be towed.. we called ALL and i mean ALL of the parts stores in town... nobody was open.. EXCEPT bumper to bumper... i told them the situation and he offered to stay a bit later for us... ended up being about 10 min after close... i got the correct clip, and 6 more quarts, and went back to the car...

by this time it is completely dark, and downpouring... :D

the car which i was able to get under before, had sank in the mud and i was not able to get under it anymore.. we found a piece of plywood in teh ditch (thank you literers) and jacked er up... this is what i was working with

What 'clips' are you talking about? As said, I have never touched the transmission in that car. All of the work was done by ZZP.

And to 2000SilverBullet, I did no more abuse to that car than anyone has done by drag racing. Anyway...

Look at this way. It was time for a transmission flush although too bad it got "flushed" on the side of the road.

Lets hope its good to go now for a VERY long long long long time.

caminated2k 01-29-2006 04:00 PM

I pray to everything holy that you have ZERO issues for the life of the car.

As for the clip, I had no idea something like that was there. I have never even looked at those lines much less put a hand on them. Either that occured at ZZP's shop or it was there since I owned the car as I would not put a nonstandard part on a transmission fluid line, that just seems retarded.

The same thing happend to me with that car when I got it, not with the engine and transmission, but just about everything else you can think of. New breaks, new left front hub, new tie rod ends, new tires, new front motor mount, plug wires, coil packs, coil pack bracket, on and on.

*sigh* I hope this is all over, I get so depressed looking at this.

Sorry. Obviously, my sarcasm didn't come through.

skidoox_2 01-29-2006 04:53 PM

poor andrew....Man what a gay ordeal with the whole fixing it in the mud. I think that you get to kick the guy in the nuts who sold u the car. You paid enough time and money to buy yourself a new bonne. anyways cant wait to race the new bonne!

Huh? I think the seller of the car was more than generous with helping out with the problems. If it were a lot of other people, they would have just said "screw you, you're on your own to fix this." I think Adam did a great thing helping out as much as he has for these problems. He already feels guilty enough for all these problems happening without people saying stuff like he knew it was going to happen..

DarkShadow 01-30-2006 02:36 AM

this is just too many problems for a 6 year old car. all these problems that andrew has been having with it has made my mind up for me to never buy a 00+ bonneville. (id trust another mercury mystique before that car sry to say :frown: )

ill be happy with a 87-99

No offense, but this is an ex-modded 00+ and was at one time the #3 Bonnie on the planet. To say that all 00+ are bad because one has problems after being abused beyond what GM intended (and yes I use abused in descriptive way not to say that Adam abused his car) is retarded.

Carry on.

Sorry man.... I guess I dont know "adam" well enough to bash him.

He would be the one who posted 2 posts above the previous post you made bashing him. And yes, he has tried to help as much as possibly, but again, the car was bought knowing that it was raced and modded. While these things were unseen, they were not completely unexpected.

Mr Bean 02-01-2006 04:52 PM

skidoox,

adam...the guy you were bashing, happens to be caminated (look for the scion in the sig)...who posted a couple of posts up. if you had been around to follow this whole story from the beginning, you would understand. it's all good, just know that adam is a very good guy...and so is andrew...neither one of them had any inkling that these issues would crop up. we all hope andrew gets a lot of trouble-free miles from here on in.

caminated2k 02-01-2006 10:38 PM

Amen.. amen.

The car was sold with a clear description that it had been abused/modded (same difference) it went for $4....one on ebay with more miles and worse condition just went for $6.......(IMO when anyone digs into the internals that is abuse and will come back to haunt in the end but that is obviously to be expected)

However as of right now it has fresh motor and trans in it and should be good for a long time to come.

AS for ZZP bashing I will keep my mouth shut on that one.

Just so you know the age of the car often has little to do with the problems it might encounter...

Everyone can have opinions and yes the 2000+ have their fair share of problems like the steering shaft, wheel bearings, leaks, window regulators, etc.

However 92-99 have common problems with leaks, alternators, Computer command ride, wheel bearings, transmission reliablity issues....the list goes on

Potato for Potato is really depends on how the car was cared for, the location, etc to determine what issues you are going to have. There are lots of 2000+ cars on this forum that have been going 10s of thousands of miles with minimal problems.

Any car with as many options/performance/technology as a bonnie is destined to have problems and stuff is going to break....
