Just let me know if you need the tow. I'm always up for that kind of stuff!

Rogue 01-18-2006 10:14 AM

Honestly, I'd go with number 4. Give ZZP a chance to make it right (or help a customer out). I know if we had built the transmission I'd want a chance to help or make it right.

harofreak00 01-18-2006 10:18 AM

yes #4 it is...

checking with zoomer to see when he can get parts, and how much...

BillBoost37 01-18-2006 10:34 AM

A little late...I like option #4 out fo the list.

thanks... glad i can count on you...

anytime saturday is good for me...

ill either be spending my weekend at johns... or at the MN meet.... 8)

Mortehl 01-18-2006 11:40 AM

Andrew, I'd say go with the fourth option too. You want the heavy duty rebuild and you know it :P. Whatever you do though make sure to figure out WTF happened.

See if this is a result somehow from the engine going south on you, or perhaps something you did with the car, or perhaps as a result of some defect from the original rebuild that was just a matter of time before it bit you or whomever owned the car in the butt.

harofreak00 01-18-2006 11:43 AM

not at liberty to discuss what i think went wrong with it at this time... wait for the dismantle... dont wanna jump to conclusions

Exactly. Thats why I want to make sure you gut the thing and don't wind up with another transmission.

What time does the MN meet start? I can pick up the trailer early that morning and drive down right away. We can load it up and then after the meet, drive it to wherever you need it to go. Are there any time constraints on where and when it needs to be somewhere?

caminated2k 01-18-2006 12:50 PM

This probably isn't an option but if you have access to the shop where you took it to have the motor replaced, you could get it towed there, pull the engine / trans yourself and drive it to John, have him rebuild it, and install it back in yourself. Would save you the 300 and just cost you your time.

If you lived closer I'd do it for you but I know that isn't an option. I guess my $2,000 did nothing but buy you another headache  :?

I am also curious to find out just what the heck went wrong. Grr. I can't believe just how much this has me ticked off, much more than I thought it would and it isn't even mine anymore! However, in a roundabout way, I'm still paying for that trans right now

harofreak00 01-18-2006 07:36 PM

gordy: no time constraits... anytime on saturday is fine... why dont u plan on being here like 10 or 11 if thats not to early for ya ;)

adam:
that shop that we did the motor at was my dads, keyword: WAS. he has a new job in brookings, SD... and that is way further than the cities... the whole reason he is not involved anymore is cuz of distance...

john talked to zoomer and steve today to figure out the parts... and then i heard nothing until this evening when zoomer said he will probably get the parts in tomorrow and ship them overnight to me.. so we can still plan for the weekend

Where do you want to meet? Or should I just look you up on your cell when I get close?

harofreak00 01-22-2006 05:17 PM

found this one with my code
2000
Transmission
Pontiac Bonneville
43,940 miles
$750
Huntington Auto Center

PontiacDad 01-22-2006 06:05 PM

$750's not bad. Could be lower miles though?

harofreak00 01-22-2006 06:10 PM

Not much for choices are there?
When I was looking for a used tranny last year there was only 2 in western Canada and they wanted over $1600 each

caminated2k 01-22-2006 06:30 PM

Rogue, it was stock.

:( Go with the used one.. it will / should have the diff in it as well.

Ugh.

harofreak00 01-22-2006 09:09 PM

ed's got nothing... calling about that used one tomorrow morning

caminated2k 01-23-2006 06:25 PM

:(

If I had know the car would have this many issues I would have kept it. I feel HORRIBLE for everything. Argh.

harofreak00 01-23-2006 06:40 PM

i am getting the used tranny from the yard in sauk rapids for $750.

it will be ready on friday because they have to weld on a new mount that was broken off... its this gonna be ok? they will not sell it with the broken mount for a lower price...

john will have one of his friends that lives in sauk get the trans on friday, or whenever doable.. and go from there

1993 SLE 01-23-2006 08:30 PM

wow....just a question....im assuming that this trans is not getting beefed up....cause you might want to look into it and save $$$$ im the long run if it happens again

harofreak00 01-23-2006 08:42 PM

no money to beef.. trust me

stock = 100k
performance = 14k...

ill be ok for a while

caminated2k 01-24-2006 03:01 PM

The failure of the stock trans was from the 4th clutch shaft splines rounding off. This was inevitable as it sounds from most reports. However, I believe I accelerated it by going WOT while cruizing in 4th gear...

You can save it for a while longer by going into manual 3, then going WOT.

*adds to driving style*

caminated2k 01-25-2006 12:53 AM

BTW, after the 4th shaft failed and I had to drive it in third for 6,000 miles, this is what the clutch packs looked like:

Yeah, you shouldn't see metal....

willwren 01-25-2006 12:59 AM

Looks like my second gear clutches on my 93's trans. Only better.

Mr Bean 01-25-2006 03:54 PM
