Default Windshield area makes snapping noise

2002 SLE W/134K. When I go over an uneven road surface I hear a crisp "snapping" sound coming from the windshield area above the passenger side dash. Not potholes, or bad road slabs - just rolling uneven pavement. It only happens when it is cold, like under 20* - so all winter here in Iowa it has been doing it. I never hear it in the summer. I have checked for lose struts and other stuff under the hood and car, and under the dash. It is the factory windshield with no cracks or chips. Any ideas ? Something other than the windshield ? Cracked weld somewhere ? Why only when cold ?

Check for any rust. Sounds like the car is flexing.

Hosing for the windshield washers is routed under the cowl. If you remove your cabin air filter you can see it. My car had the same noise under similar condtions and it was the hose hitting the metal. I insulated it from the body better and haven't heard the noise since. I hope that'* all it is for you too! Good luck!
