Is this a wheel bearing? or what?

The nut takes a 34mm socket which you can get at most auto parts stores. As mentioned, the others are pretty standard metric stuff that come off pretty easily. I used a puller and some PB Blaster to separate the splines from the bearing assembly.
So the bearing can get stuck on these axles, too?
Of course you can "buy" the puller and socket from Murray'* or AZone, and you can return them when done. Not positive about the socket. I usually just keep the socket.

Today I had the bearing changed, and voila! no more hum.
Thank you all for your input! Lesson learned here for me is to trust my own instincts, and trust you guys.
