Default What modules do the 00+ have (body based)

What modules do the 00 have?

My symptoms:

- My headlights NEVER turn off, even with a flashlight on the sensor
- I only get 2 of the tailights, there are 6 of them total, I only get 2. Bulbs are good
- I get REALLY WEIRD dash stuff, often all the lights will stay on
- Known good cluster DID NOT fix the strange dash lights issue
- Often the PRND321 lights will show PARK and 1ST at the same time
- Often several of the dash lights will stay on even with the car turned off and locked
- HUD is ALWAYS in "dim" mode.
- Tachometer fails at random
- Security light GLOWS SOLID about 1/5th of the time I drive it.

I'm confident I have a scewy module on this car, Are the modules under dash? Where do I start troubleshooting this one?

Anybody have a 2000+ FSM? what modules control this car?

Check out the 2003 Bonneville demo information at AllDataDiy.com The information is virtually identical to the 2000, and it'* full featured demo. It likely will have all the information that you need.

even more confused now.

I have problems with my INSTRUMENT PANEL INTEGRATION MODULE (IPM) and DASH INTEGRATION MODULE (DIM)....I cant seem to tell what is the MIDDLE LINK in between these two.

It seems like everytime the car boots up I get something different.

1st time: I have No Gear lights, None of the lights except check engine light flash when the ignition is in ON position.

2nd time: I have gear lights now and a security light, no other lights on dash light up when you flip the key to the on position (car not running yet)

3rd time: I fire up the car, all the lights work but tach does not

4th time: Everything works

5th time: Dash "freezes up" indicator says its in PARK but it is in drive, again non of the lights work, traction control does not do anything on the dash light.

6th time: car works fine again

7th time: Gear selector says PARK, DRIVE, 1ST and 2ND are lit, dash is frozen

It seems like the binary feed is getting messed up somewhere. I checked cabling to the IPM and DIM and the connections are clean, I reseated to make sure, thats when I reproduced all these problems...

I'm checking all the fuses now.

This car has got to be the weirdest electrical bug ever.

I'm unplugging the battery overnight and hoping it will reset something. Wishful thinking I suppose

so all these hook togehter and if one fails it causes grief on the rest of the car?

thats the thought I get after looking at the wiring diagrams...

That'd be my guess. If I had to guess as to what may cause these problems I'd say one of the following...

* Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
* Remote Function Actuator (RFA)
* Rear Integration Module (RIM)
* Dash Integration Module (DIM)
* Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM) with CJ2
* Instrument Cluster (IPC)

Hans:
With electrical problems all over the vehicle I would start looking at the grounding of the electrical system. You probably have already done this but if not it is a good place to start with the types of electrical problems you currently have.

i agree, you should be digging around and cleaning EVERY LAST ground that you can find

what condition is the batter itself in? Does it hold a good strong charge? How are the cold morning starts?

In addition to this, leave the battery unhooked over night to let the electrical system run down and reset.

This does sound like a ground problem, but the first thing i would do is check the battery cables and make sure they're tight and clean. If the cables on the battery aren't tight or cleaned, then you would be getting problems such as this.

I agree with the others on probable grounding issues. In your cleaning, include pulling the grounding strap from the battery to the car body. Pay close attention to the bolt and the threads in body. It'* grounded to a painted surface, also.
