My 2003 se is causing to me to stare longingly at bridge abutments.
The blower motor started acting up about a month ago. I figured ok I need to replace it, use my snow brush and whack the bottom of the dash area and it would start to work again. Sounds simple enough right ?
If I turn to Full lock left only the fan (when working) slows and my voltage gauge drops drastically. (almost all the way to the left) - don't remember if that is 0 or what but not good. Now if that wasn't strange enough when I step on the brake the fan speeds up.
What the frog is going on. I was discussing this with a mechanic friend and he said there was some type of resistor but he couldn't remember if it was for the bonneville or the GP.
At a cost of 75.00 used and 125 new I don't want to be replacing something I don't have to, if it'* a resistor then I will replace it.
Just some add on information. As I said above, full lock only turning left. When I "whack" the underneath of the dash it'* hit or miss (no pun intended) as sometimes it runs and I can adjust the speed and it lasts for the length of my drive 20 min to 2 hours. And sometimes it runs for 10 or 15 min then stops again.
I haven't seen these exact symptons when I searched so I thought I would throw them all at you at the same time and see if this is 1 problem or 6.
Also, my battery terminals are clean, I checked just to make sure that wasn't part of the voltage drop.
Thanks.

That is strange. It sounds like you may have two separate things going on at once. The 'turning the steering wheel' is definitely a major clue. There is a common problem with wiring in the column. I can't think of any other reason why the steering effects the voltage like that....
Sounds like a pausible ground bus issue?
Have a look at this link for some tips and where to look.

There have been reports of internal wiring problems with the blower itself. This is a thread on one where he took the motor apart to fix it.

And the thread that includes his step-by-step guide.
