Would it be possible to intall Versatrak in an 3800SC powered FWD car - similar to G8 concept car?

Any AWD possibilities for the new GXP?

I really want to stay with the Bonneville as my sedan, but also would like to go RWD or preferably AWD.

I would also want to avoid completely re-building the car

I am considering the new STS or SRX, but Pontiacs have a special place in my heart.

Does anyone know if GM has committed to zeta platform versions of GP and Bonneville?

This is the new mass market version of the sigma platform used in new Caddies - and supports RWD or AWD with fully independent suspension.

The Versatrak transfer case replaces the tailshaft on the 4T65-E. I think the tailshaft is much bigger on the 4T80-E used in the GXP, so no AWD possible for the GXP. I think it would take some fabricating, but you could put Verstrak on the Bonne if it has a 4T65-E.

The AWD setup from the Aztek was successfully grafted to a GP. Been done. Of course, they ripped the guts out of it when they punched the loud pedal on the LS1 under the hood.

Is it true that AWD adds a lot of weight to the car?

My guess is it will add a lot, at least 500lbs.
A transfer case is a lot of metal, probably about 1/3 of a transmission. My guestimate is it would weigh about 60-100lbs. Then you have a rear differential+halfshafts. A rear diff, maybe 200lbs? Then the drive shaft. I think a steel one would be close to 100lbs. Also, I think you'd need beefier control arms and bigger hub assemblies with the splined hole in the middle. It would all add up.

The Audi A8'* are in the same size class as a Bonneville, a little shorter actually. They have a 100% aluminum body and frame to greatly reduce weight, yet they still weigh around 200lbs more than a Bonneville. So my guess is AWD probably adds several hundred pounds minimum.

Yep, A8'* are 198.2" long. 92-99 Bonnevilles are 200.5" long. 00+ are 202.6" long.
