Default Verizon + Onstar

I'm considering activating my onstar system again just to regain the use of the hands-free cellphone. My question though, is how much does it cost to share your minutes on a verizon wireless plan with your car? I know you'd have to add your car as a second line, but is it the regular rate of 10/month? Onstar is 17/month, so the two together would be close to $30/month for onstar/hands free cellphone in the car using onstar. (the person you're talking to plays over your car'* speakers, and there'* a built in microphone in the rear view mirror I believe.) The reception is supposed to be superior to cellphones because it uses towers from ALL service providers since Onstar is a safety system. Has anyone done this? I'd be really nice to use..

Looks like you will need a basic On Star plan in place for your car and you will need to add the On Star number as a second phone on your Verizon account.

From the On Star website:

Now there'* a wireless plan no one else can offer. It'* the Verizon Wireless America'* ChoiceSM Plan with OnStar, a Family SharePlan that lets you share your Verizon Wireless Plan minutes between your wireless phone and your OnStar Hands-Free Calling.

Make OnStar Hands-Free calls for less using your Verizon Wireless Family SharePlan minutes.

Add your vehicle as a second line to a Verizon Wireless America'* Choice Family SharePlan for more value and convenience.
Make and receive hands-free, voice-activated calls on the road easily at the touch of a button.
Get unlimited nights and weekend minutes, and with National IN Calling get unlimited calls to other Verizon Wireless customers without using plan minutes.
Enjoy the simplicity of one plan, one package of minutes, and one bill for all of your calls.
Forward your calls from your Verizon Wireless phone to your OnStar Hands-Free calling to enjoy the convenience of hands-free calling while driving.
With Verizon Wireless you'll get the Nation'* most reliable wireless network.

With our world moving faster than ever, staying connected can be a challenge.
But now there'* the America'* Choice Plan with OnStar, the smart, simple and most comprehensive way to stay in touch-- on and off the road.

America'* Choice Plan with OnStar Eligibility Requirements

Eligible subscribers must have:
Minimum one-year remaining OnStar subscription and one-year Verizon Wireless contract required.

An extra $10.00 is a small price if you have a plan with a lot of free minutes. The least expensive add on cost per minute for the On Star is 1000 minutes for $299 or .29 a minute. Way expensive.

My 03 SLE is not digital, it is analog. I can have it upgraded to digital for 3 years of onstar service prepaid(about $600 for cheapest service). In a couple years though the analog isn't suppose to be supported anyways, but $600 is a lot to pay just to add my verizon to my car.
