I never realized it was there...I mean, I guess I knew it, but never bothered with it. And yes, it'* put there for a security purpose I guess....

Yeah, you could always re-wire it. On the 92-99 the button needed the key in the ignition I believe for it to work. Atleast mine does. You could always move the button to a new location if it is a real big pain. My lumina has it under the driver'* left side dash, which seems like a good location for it.

Both 95 and 97 don't need the key...97 does have a lock out in the trunk though.

yeah, i thought that the trunk release in the glove box was pretty retarded too. In its place on my car is a trunk-override switch so you can disable the button on the driver'* door for the trunk. I think that'* just as good of a safety precaution as having the button in the glove box.

thank god for the key FOB because the location sucks.
makes you wonder what were they thinking with the new design.

guys, adding another button and a valet saftey switch in the trunk is EASY.

you can tap into the wires or extend the ones of the the switch in the glove compartment any momentary switch will work.

then just pick one of the two wires in the truck that go to the trunk popper and put a switch on it.
