Default Transmission Interchangeability

I have a 2001 SE that needs a transmission. (Lovely grinding noise in reverse (only) and a bit of Metallica in the fluid). I’m too lazy to read the 243 topics that result from a search on “transmission”, so I’m taking the easy way out and asking here.

I’ll be scouring some boneyards for a replacement tranny, my question is what cars used this same transmission?

i believe your donor transmission will HAVE to come from either a Bonneville or LeSabre and nothing else... I think Haro knows more about this

I concur. car-parts.com is only showing me '01 Bonnevilles and '01 LeSabres.

Well, that figures! Thanks for the info. I'll narrow my search to those models.

Welcome to the "2000+ owners that need a new transmission" club.

do you have the FQ3 rpo code?

or is it an F83?

(spare tire cover)

Reason i ask is that there is a 2001 SE here in the yard.....(the cheap ghetto yard)..I can see if they still have the trans from it if you know the RPO code (gear ratio)

FQ3. This is the car my father-in-law picked up for peanuts 'cause the tranny is tanked (actually works fine in forward gears (for now), but grinds in reverse). If the yard has one, let me know what they want fer it and I'll gas up the Silverado...

2001 -- Transmission -- Buick LeSabre -- FQ3 -- 76,798 -- 05156 -- $500 -- Labrum Auto Wrecking USA-UT(Salt-Lake City) -- 1-801-266-3541

2001-- Transmission -- Buick LeSabre -- 90 DAY,3.8,AT -- 508024 -- $475 -- Duanes Auto Wrecking USA-UT(Orem) -- 1-800-624-7062

A quick look on car-part.com revealed those. I do not see the one here in Burley listed. they also dont list most of their stuff so you gotta call them first, they are called Auto Wrex Plus -- (20 678-7580.

These transmissions are VERY specific because of the wiring, I've yet to find one for my car (low miles core at a good price) and i've been looking in several states.

Hans - dont know if you have been considering Park Avenues or not but Ed Morad has a HD from an 00' PA that he claims will work in a 00' SC Bonneville.

If he says PA is interchangable, I would believe it.
