Hi all, been lurking here for a while but this is my first posting. This is the best Bonneville site I have found on the web… With that said here are my questions.
I recently purchased a 01 SSEI for my wife and have been working out some bugs that came with the car. Thanks “PontiacDad” and others for the detailed fix on the trunk leaks, now I can remove the sump pump from the spare tire well and finally wash the car.
Second major problem I found is sometimes while driving the tach drops to 0 and stays there until you turn the key off and back on. Often a quick ignition misfire accompanies this at the same instant. This happened 3 times on a 500-mile trip last week. The car will continue to run fine, but the tach does not recover. I don’t think its coil related since the overall performance is fine. Any suggestions??
Tks

The tack gets its signal from the pcm. There are only two connections one at the tack and the other at the pcm. Check the pcm first, its located in the air box and is easy to get to. If your going to pull the connector right off the pcm first disconnect the negative on the battery.
Its a little tougher to get to the dash connection. you have to remove the trim around the gauges first, start with the ingnition bezel and two screws under the top dash. use a little force to remove the dash trim tabs. There are 5 cluster pins to open up for the gauge removal. Check the connections(2) and check the harness for any rub marks and/or bare wires.
