I had a 1992 SSEi with over 150k miles and i ran nothing but regular unleaded and beat on that motor hard and never had a problem. Drove that car with regular unleaded for 2 years.

Sounds like you were lucky. That is definately not a good idea and definately not recommended by me.

Running 87 octane in an SSEi is worse than running your oil twice the suggested change interval. Long-term damage results from low octane in these motors.

I have a 2004 Impala SS. It has 235,000 miles on it and runs like a champ. The only issue I ever had was the water pump locking up and needing replacement, cheap quick fix. Absolutely love my Impala still!!
