I didn't think the brand of the tires would matter, but one never knows if the tire manufacturers make them just a little bit odd from others.......I'm scraping for any kind of explanation for my problem....

Alright, we can rule out any faults with the Wheel Speed Sensors. That leaves 3 other components in reference to the Vehicle Stability Enhancement System (VSES) aka Stabilitrak. The 3 components are the Steering Wheel Sensor, the Lateral Accelerometer Sensor , and the Yaw Rate Sensor all of which provide input signaling to the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). The WSS'* also input to the EBCM. It is possible that one of the 3 sensors is at fault, or that the interconnecting wiring is at fault activating the VSES. You mentioned the intermediate shaft was replaced a couple years ago? The Steering Wheel Position Sensor would have been affected by that, might be worth checking the electrical connector is secured on that & the other two sensors The Yaw Rate Sensor is located underside of rear deck left side. The Lateral Accelerometer Sensor is located under rear bench seat adjacent to rear fuse block. look for any evidence of water or corrosion in the areas of the sensors that may be creating an intermittent ground causing the VSES to activate for no apparent reason.

I agree with Mark, including that the steering position sensor is the most likely culprit at this point. If care is not used, it can be damaged during the intermediate shaft replacement. It has also been one that has caused a problem with people in the past. It usually generates the "service stability system" display on the DIC, however. Someone may have, but I don't recall anyone posting that they've had a problem with the YAW or lateral accelerometer sensors. Checking for water in the back is also a good idea.

I did receive a "Service Stability System" for the first time this weekend. So, maybe this time it threw a code and I can get that checked. Now when the engine retards, I hear a clunking like the catalytic converter is bouncing. First time I've heard that also.

I did not get a chance to try the dielectric grease on the wheel sensors as it rained here all weekend and I don't have enough room in my garage.

I will also look under the back seat for water, damage or corrosion. It has been raining alot here lately. Thanks for all the suggestions!!

Michelle, I would hold on the dielectric grease for now, it is an excellent preventive maintenance measure. I wouldn't disturb any thing related to wheel speed sensors at this time until the actual fault can be localized to specific component. We know that the wheel speed sensors are not at fault at this time.

Who did the service on the intermediate shaft? Was that done at the dealer? With the service stability system warning, and the problem often showing up during a left turn, things do seem to be leaning toward the steering position sensor. Do check the other things first, however.

I checked under the back seat last night and it is very clean and dry. There is no corrosion or moisture around any of the fuses, battery etc. I also checked the floorboards since I read the posts about those problems, and they too are dry. Something positive......

Yes it does always seem to show up after left turns! Not usually during, shortly after....it'* very irradic, and it doesn't happen every time. And the steering does feel a little funny....like the belt is slipping.....hard to turn sometimes. Would the steering position sensor retard the engine though?

The dealer did replace the shaft. It has been 2-1/2 to 3 years ago; while the car was still under warranty.

I had a chat with my service guy at the dealer last night too because I remembered that I had some weird problems with one of my Bonneville'* and it turned out to be a couple bare wires under the hood that were arcing. So we looked up my history and sure enough, it was this car. So, I made an appt for Thursday to have the dealer check it out. He said if they can't find anything wrong, which is the story of my life(sometimes I thing the guys there think I'm nuts), that they will give me a computer data recorder so I can hit the record button when it happens. I will have to mention the left turn thing to him too.

Hopefully one step closer to figuring out this possessed beast. Oh, uh, I mean my wonderful, sleek craftmanship of beauty ........
