That's going to be my next mod....only I have to find a place to buy hockey pucks...it's not that big of a sport around here.

And a small video i made.
Note: When i moved the engine, i tried to sway the car as strong as i can ,and the pavement was dry, but cold. http://www.zippyvideos.com/306259358...lidmotormount/ |
Looks good Mike.
Interesting that my Boost gauge will only peg like that when I use my 3.1" pulley. I think if you free up some of that exhaust restriction you will be able to go smaller on your pulley for some more fun. |
Looking at that video makes me wonder if I've got a transmission mount going out. I've got some more movement (not much more) in mine than you do, even with my solid mount. It's supposed to be warm this weekend, if they're not too expensive I'll pull them out and look at them, replacing them if needed. Now if only I knew how to tell a bad tranny mount from a good one ;)

I have a 3.25 waiting in my trunk :D ill get a PCM probably next month and rocker this spring, if i can afford headers ill put the 3.25 , but i will probably stay with the 3.4 if i cant get headers. And i really love the mount! :P Thx |
i like the fact that no one who has built a solid mortor mount has taken it out and said HELL NO WORST MOD I EVER DID !
i like mine (75,000+ miles on it) glad you like yours MIKE P. ROD |
Here's a ? on the mount.
What's the safe height to be running at? I have the three hockey pucks with a thick washer on top, a washer on top of the engine mount bracket, and a piece of 1/2" threaded rod (just like Mike's), a lockwasher and nut on top of the bracket, and on the bottom of the core support. With all that, I'm running just under 3" to the bottom of the bracket. Something like 2 7/8". I've noticed a little more clunking in the steering now, but I don't know if it's actually more, or my paranioa of messing something up, and wondering if I did. No new engine noises other than a slight creek upon the initial acceleration. Should I add more washers to bring it up to 3 1/2" Add the hole-sawed tire sidewalls? I haven't really cranked down on the pucks. Just to the point where the nut gets tight, plus about 1 1/2 turns. Just enough to keep it tight. |
I would recommend it. Mine started out at 3" and I had some vibration issues which went away when I added in some extra washers to take it to 3-1/2". It's easy enough to do and closer to the size of the stock mount when it's compressed.

I just put the new mount in last night, and today I've had problems with the car dying randomly. Could this be a coincedence, or a cause of the mount being too low?
