Service Stability System
WIth everything in proper working order you can still get the message the odd time if you hit a small bump. Seems worse in the winter months too, wait for other symptoms before replacing anything. (vibration in steering wheel, noise etc.)
My car had the same warning. I procrastinated, and a month or two later, it stopped. Had the car in fora new steering pump and had the tech check for codes. The stability code didn't even register.

I was wondering if it left a code or not. I'll mention it the next time the car goes in.
Update.. Hasn't came back on yet. Only drove it on two short trips thou.

Mine has gone off so many times I just leave the speed sensors unplugged, sick of it applying the breaks for no reason.
I am thinking of trying the steering sensor because it will let me know if it is the hubs for the cheapest amount... I don't want to have to start replacing hubs for no reason.
Can a dealer actually pinpoint what the problem is??

Well, things got worse. Cruise control has kicked off a couple times and the Low Trac Light started coming on going up hills with what I felt was the brakes kicking in.
Went to the dealer and all of you were right. The code was for that Steering wheel position sensor. Says they are going to have to remove the steering column. At the same time, go ahead and grease the intermediate shaft. BTW, car only has 26K miles.
FYI Patrick

Got the service stability system message.....and it DID NOT set any codes off on the computer..WTF!?!? I am assuming that it is the steering wheel position sensor. Have had the left hub replaced not long ago, still makes moaning on left movements on highway or off ramp. This seems to be an illusive little item. The random braking has not happened yet to me so I am ruling out the speed sensors. Any suggestions guys?? BTW how do you replace the steering sensor?

Need to do mine also, probably best done by dealer or garage. Its right under hush panel where the steering wheel links up to intermediate shaft. It doesnt seem to cause any problem. When I lubed my inter shaft I noticed It had been done before already and I think if your not careful with removal you can screw up sensor.I just reset on DIC.
Can u put your year and model in signature, it helps people when diagnosing problems.

Yep, I get the Stability light too, about once per week, ever since I lubed the steering 1/2 shaft. Normally, the light appears out of nowwhere, usually when just cruising the smooth interstate. No codes are set either. I just RESET the fool thing and forget about it until I get the ding-ding again. I'm getting pretty automatic on the RESET button. Today when returning home, on the interstate again, my wife asks, "What did you just push?". I told her I didn't remember pushing anything. I said, "what did you see me push?" and she pointed to that dang fool RESET button.
Yeah.....the reset button I think gets pushed more than the unlock on the remote!! Between Check Gauges low fuel and the service stability system, the reset is a natural reflex :
Pontiac really needs to re-think all these sensors, and if they are really worth having all of the extra toys!
