OK- More info. Dropped some coin on a scan tool with lotsa bells and whistles- Here'* what I got for codes - 4 of them
P0102
P0122
P0401
P1122
I cleared them out, went for a couple spins around the block. twice I got the P0102 but what raises my attention- P0122 TPS- shows intermittent

Check the wires and lug on the MAF. Had a Grand Prix a while back with a loose pin on the MAF plug. Recrimped the pin and all was good.

OK- what a fun afternoon and evening with my new scanner- Still getting that 0102 and 0401, the egr code- maybe I need to clean that anyhows- but I followed your suggestions- I pulled each wire from the plugs on everything- checking for good crimps, clean wires. I have to say I can not find a problem in any of the areas.
So, my question- where is the power coming from for the MAF? could a faltering alternator cause this problem? I have had some instances of headlights modulating on me, it seems to be while going through corners, transmission shifting I see lights dim and brighten occasionally. So, with the precision of the MAF device itself, I'm thinking possibly unconditioned power causing a problem? I'm not too proficient with this device yet, but I'm yet to see where I can monitor the power system with it. I can watch quite a few parameters numerically or in graph mode- and log it- but I'm drawing attention to the power obviously.

After all this I am no closer to solving the problem than when I started. Time to start replacing parts- Swapnostics! and some people frown upon this method- either that or 5 gallons of gas and a match.

Thanks for all the help guys! I'm outa here!

It'* not that we frown on swapping parts. It'* swapping to start with that'* frowned on. But you have tested, checked, and cleaned. After you have removed the easy, free, and cheep repairs. And still not found the problem. Then your left with replacing sensors.

Would you start with PCM or MAF in this case? No big deal if I end up with spares-I'm obviously going ot need them at some point.

That'* pretty odd. P0102 must be setting after P0401, because the test description on 401 says it doesn't run the test if 102 is set.

That is correct Bill. It does the 401 almost instantly after I clear them and drive. It also says "pending" which I don't understand.

Check those FSM pages I sent you. Walk through what you can and test where it seems to make sense. Should be a help. There'* most likely a two test fail needed for it to kick the light. Test one fails: Pending, test two fails: Mr. Happy Light appears.

Default Solved!

OK- SOLVED!
I think I got it guys. Went to Da Zone @lunch- bought new MAF sensor and IAC- I figured what the heck- same tool, I'm right there- $36- swapped em and drove for about 20 minutes back to the grind. Hasn't ran that good in a while.
So, $180 and a new scan tool later- all good. the knowledge I picked up along the way- priceless right? -

A big thanks to Dan and Bill- I appreciate the time, I really truly do.
