The charge all depends on if the shop splits their hourly rates. Most do not, but definitely ask before you go in.

Yep, you're right - I should have gone into more detail that it does not necessarily have to be a tech II, but any scanner that can read the extended codes There are a few of them that will do it.

So, Bonnie...when you go into a shop...ask them if they have the ability to scan for what your problems are, and what it will cost. Which particular tool they use to do it doesn't matter, just whether or not they can. As with many car related repair costs, they will vary from shop to shop.
