I am proposing a letter to GM pertaining to the window regulator issues we've been experiencing on the 2000-2005 Bonnevilles. If you have had problems, please read this carefully, and send me a PM with your permission to add your name as signator to the bottom. My hope is that we can get enough signatures to get them interested in recalling this.

Dear (CUSTOMER SERVICE REP),

I am writing on behalf of the owners of Pontiac Bonnevilles ranging in model year from 2000 to 2005. We are a loyal group of your customers, enthusiastic enough to have not only purchased one of thes cars, but also to take pride in ownership and become involved with a group of other owners of Bonnevilles who also love their cars.

We are collectively disappointed in the way that your company has handled the problem with window regulator design on these cars. Clearly, this is not an anomoly, nor due to abuse, but a design shortcoming, or defect in materials. For a 5-year old car to have so many instances of the same problem crop up from cost to coast, and even in Canada, is unreasonable.

I personally work for a large Lawfirm in Chicago. I have been in contact with several attorneys who have expressed more than passing interest in pursuing a plaintiff'* class action against GM over this issue. I previously also worked for one of your primary defense counsel, Kirkland & Ellis, LLP, and am fully aware of the cost of litigation of these matters. I am also fully aware that such a recall would be far and away less expensive to GM than the bad publicity and cost of representation would be should you chose to ignore the public demand for attention to this matter.

Considering your companies situation, I would think that you might like to carefully weigh the option of recalling these window regulators and replacing them with a better, more durable design. There is a significant number of people in this group alone to provide you with a statistical cross section of owners, which should make it clear that public awareness garnered by potential news coverage would generate far more claims, and potential class members, than a recall would. You certainly must also consider the potential loss of customer base such a lawsuit might cause.

We are asking you to please issue a recall, and take care of the loyal customers you have left.

Policy is to only provide a customer recall on issues that soley involve
the safety of vehicles.... windows are hardly going to be considered
a "safety" issue.

There is still no official "recall" on the intermediate shaft which is far
and away more of a safety issue.

I Would hardly suggest your working for a law firm / litigation (yet) ...
no need to ruffle feathers - try just approch'in this more
from a "frustrated" but "wholly GM faithful" customer(*)
whom wish for some recourse via discount or remediation
for a well documented issue with this part failing.

Agree is way too expensive and should not even be a problem
except for poor design / or / Chinese manufacture

Too late. GM actively reads this forum.

I don't have the benefit of seeing what uirx2002 wrote to them, but my message to them initially wasn't that different from what I am proposing. The only reason I can figure for the drastically different response (they offered to cover half of what I paid the dealer to repair, as opposed to flatly denying uirx2002'* request for assistance) is that they see my connections and knowledge of their cost to address a lawsuit as motivating. Its that or the support person who handled my message was more compassionate.

In a business world, I don't think compassion is much of a factor in corporate decisions, unless it is compassion for the company bottom line. I think dealing with a small company, we'd have a better chance of being nice and reasonable, and getting results. But the largest corporation on earth only cares about what costs them less money in the long run.

Not sure why you think its too late, or what'* too late. Its good that they read this forum. It would be better if we can organize a request that they address these issues, and get as many of us to 'sign' it as have problems in these areas, don't you think?

Alone, we're just flys on their butt once in a while. Together, we can hopefully get noticed. I'd personally love for them to see 50 people with trans problems sign a similar letter. Maybe they'll ignore it, but wouldn't it be worth the trouble if they even covered part of the repair as a result?

I think your letter is in perfect business language and not only demonstrates the issue but a solution as well. You clearly outline expectations and outcomes if these expectations are not met.

im in 110%.. especially since i had a window regulator failure last week

My first regulator went out 6 months ago, now 5 days ago driving down the road I hear a CRACK and the other rear window just starts sliding down on it'* own, so yet again I have tape on my window holding it up to the top of the door frame.. UGH>

BTW, the crack noise heard was the cable of the regulator snapping. I haven't used that window in months, I use A/C all the time. So now, here I sit, no working rear windows and I barely ever use the dang things.

I wasn't about to dump any more money to GM and proped the other window up with a shaft IN the door. Looks like I get to do it yet again.

SIGN ME UP.. this is rediculous... I NEVER USE THE REAR WINDOWS AND THEY STILL FAILED!!!
