Oil filter - Intense's offering

For years I've been using the AC Delco PF47 on all my 3800'*, but why does Intense offer the PF52? http://www.intense-racing.com/Mercha...roduct_Count=1

This will give you an idea of how it fits, although due to the angle needed to take the picture, it shows a little lower than it actually is. I run that size on my car.

I like the idea of the larger capacity oil filter and I have tried it once but every time I looked under there and saw it peeking out hanging low I worried about it.
I suppose it depends a lot on the conditions of your roads.
We have some rough ones around here and when I travel away from home I don't want to take chances on hitting road debris. It wouldn't take much to punch a small hole and then......

Hopefully these out of car and same angle pics help you further. There'* very little difference in the amout the filter hangs down. You'll scrape your front bumper cover long before you bottom out the oil filter.

A stone shield would help for the small stuff for sure. I've considered it myself, as the 'dangle angle' of the S1 is a bit more exposed with a bigger filter.
The filter I run is both larger in diameter and longer than a stock filter.

Bottom line is that it IS exposed. There is a chance you could take this sucker out with a road hazard or a deep pothole.
I'll probably fashion some sort of skid plate for this one when it goes in. But in the long run, the Zilla isn't a daily driver except in the late spring-early fall timeframe. Not much inclement weather or bad conditions.
For most 87-99'* here? Probably not a great idea.
