noise while slowing down

i coasted in nuetral and it did the same except it seemed to drag on longer, about 3-4 seconds. :?:

With the engine and trans in coast the bearings are the only thing still turning?

the tranny was my original guess because my 97 does this. I always just figured it was the car downshifting into 1st gear upon deceleration. although, mine is hardly noticable.
