Hello! I'm about to purchase my first Bonne (previously owned 94 GP and 05 GTO), and I need some advice!

The car is in pretty good shape for a 00', some scratches and dings, with one bigger area that needs touched up... but during the test drive I swear the engine sounded so loud whenever we got past 2000rpms. It was a constant, steady roar like the engine was being pushed, but the RPMs were fine and the car was riding real smooth.. The only time that it would go away was during braking.

Anyone know what this could be from? It sounded like it was coming from the engine compartment as I was driving.. both my wife and I noticed it, as it was the only thing that seemed abnormal during the drive.

I'm about to put $500 down on the car tomorrow. It'* a 00' Silver SLE with roughly 66,800 miles (sunroof,leather) for $5700!

hmm, i just noticed this thread about wheel bearing noise... my problem also starts at around 30mph and doesn't change pitch....

My first thought was wheelbearing also.

are you claiming it was an engine noise or a wheel bearing noise?

a simple test would be to shut the engine off while driving, be careful, you need a wide open space since you will lose power steering.

if it'* still there after shutting off the engine, it is probably the wheel bearing. They are quite common on these cars. Does the pitch change while turning?

i took it out for another test spin and threw it into neutral while hammering the accelerator... the pitch definitely does NOT change in sound... i'm pretty sure it'* not the engine, but the wheel bearing (as I've been reading more about the problem)
