All GM wheels with a chrome finish have problems on the bead seat. The chrome litrally flakes off and causes an uneven bead seat. You need to grind it down to bare metal and soak the bead with a bead sealer.

i work for goodyear and see this problem almost every day all you guys with the leaks the problem is usually corrosion around the bead of the rim and tire, very common on chrome wheels. simple fix , tire must be dismounted , rim must be cleaned with wire brush or buffed around bead then apply bead sealer which is kind of like liquid rubber and mount tire back up. of course you need a tire machine to do this or a trip to the local tire shop in your area.

Default Cracked Rims

Just got home from an 1100 mile trip. Found out why tires loose pressure. I had typically had to add air when cold and rarely when warm. I have newer GoodYear Assurance tires so thought something was strange. I took the car in to a shop at the place in N. Michingan where I was headed. Couldn't find a problem at first. Then he found it- cracked rim. It'* cracked on the inner lip where the tire sits. The guy added a ton of bead seal and I was able to get hom with only a couple air stops. I think I may have 2 cracked just haven't yanked the other off because I'm afraid of the answer. I have to search the lowering threads first!

If the man at the tire center added Bead seal, thenthe crack maynot be too bad. A good welder can weld it. It takes a couple passes with a grind down between to ensure no air bubbles. These rims wouldmake a great set of winter wheels. The rims are very expensive and hard to find ones that are not cracked. I just bought a set of wheels off a Gran prix GXP. I have not put them on yet. Its winter here so I will wait for spring.

soslowsc-

I have been considering aftermarkets. Lowering seems to be an issue for these and with the existing gap between tire and fender I just don't think it would look right. Your choice may be a wonderful alternative. What size/year GXP are they from? How do you know they will fit with the front spring housing being so close as is? Any pics would b great both before and after! Thanks!

It will probably b in Dec. I am leaving for turkey day. I have not put the wheels on yet as I only bought them week before last. they came from a 2002 GTP. Sorry for the mis type. I searched theweb for aftermarket and compared GTP to SSEI and came up with the same wheels for both. If they dont fit, I will not be out much, but will let you know. email me about Michigan, I miss the old place and am from up in northern Michigan! Evart... us 10 M66 (close)
